Central DuPage Hospital has offered to build the beautiful substantial monument shown in this artist’s concept drawing as a welcoming sign for visitors to Winfield coming south on Winfield Rd. Such signs have been officially encouraged by the Village’s Town Center plan since 2006, and work has already started at a vacant lot the hospital owns at Winfield Rd. and Fleming Dr. The Village issued a building permit without noticing that a monument would violate the zoning of that lot, and some neighbors object to rezoning lest the new zoning spread to their homes too. The hospital is working with all parties to find an amicable solution as it continues its increased activities to be a good neighbor in its host community.
