The April 19 Village Board meeting started with a moment of silence for two recently-deceased officials: former Village Trustee Dennis Keeler, and West Chicago Mayor Mike Kwasman. What followed next bore no resemblance to silence.

Decision on March 16:
John Saccomanno, 57, 1n061 Mission Ct. was fined $435 with court supervision on an August 25, 2011 charge of unauthorized use of handicapped parking. He had been ticketed by Wheaton police.
The Cantigny Golf Academy is launching a "Welcome to Golf" clinic series to serve adults and families. The clinics are open to all golfers and geared to new players and those who are getting back to the game and need a refresher.
Henry Wilkening, 92, a priest in residence at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, will concelebrate a Mass at 7:30 a.m. Sunday marking 65 years of active ministry since his ordination on May 3, 1947 by Cardinal Samuel A. Stritch, Archbishop of Chicago.

When Steve Lederman’s uncle Barney was a volunteer fireman with the Wheaton Fire Department in the 1940s, a house near Jewell Rd. and Gary Ave. caught fire. While Winfield and Wheaton argued about whose responsibility it was, the house burned down.
In what has become an annual spring event in many school districts, the Wheaton-Warrenville District 200 Board of Education voted at its April 11 meeting to issue blanket layoff notices to 35 of its non-tenured teachers, based on seniority. However, this does not necessarily mean that these positions have been eliminated, and many of the same teachers may be back next fall.
